DHL
2021
Web application built for DHL to manage the whole cycle related to generating fines, centralizing information, tracking and the processing of fines.
About the project
This project was a ground-up refactor of an existing system used by DHL to manage operational demurrage and detention fines. The new version covered the workflow end-to-end, from managing the underlying operational data to handling the fines generated from it.
The system was used by hundreds of people and dealt with a large volume of operational data.
The challenge
The existing application needed to be modernized while preserving the business processes it supported. Rather than making incremental changes to the old interface, the project involved rebuilding the frontend from the ground up and rethinking how the system’s workflows and information should be organized.
The application was also specifically designed for desktop use, allowing the interface to prioritize the large amounts of information and operational workflows required by the system.
My role
I was responsible for the frontend throughout the project, from defining the architecture and designing solutions for the system’s workflows to implementing the final interface.
This included making decisions about component structure, application architecture, data presentation, and user interactions, as well as working through the requirements needed to translate the existing business processes into the new system.
Implementation
The frontend was rebuilt with Angular, using Angular Material as the component foundation. The backend was developed with .NET and C#, with Oracle and PL/SQL used for data storage and database logic.
The project evolved from Angular 7 to Angular 14 during its modernization, with the frontend architecture and interface rebuilt around the requirements of the new system.
